More Fun in KC and Around The Country (Starting with my days at The Grand Hotel on Mackinac Is., Michigan) |

|
The Above Photos are from the Mackinac Island jazz Festival in 1993. In the top picture to the right of Dave Brubeck is the Grand Hotel Jazz Quintet featuring: Music Director , Bob Snyder on Reeds, Me on Vibes, "Gypsy" Louie Lacy-bass, Mack on drums, and Jeff Phillips (a protégé' of trumpeter Nat Adderly) on Keys. Next is my favorite autograph. Dave signed a sheet of Staff Paper with a phrase from "Blue Rondo A-La Turk", one of his most famous compositions. In the bottom shot are, of course: Bob Snyder, Me, Jeff, and Dave. It was an awesome day! |

Below are Master Piano Technician, Lenny Richman (formerly Dean of The Steinway Piano Technicians Institute) and Clarinet Great, Pete Fountain at the Mackinac Island Jazz Festival in 1996. Lenny was a great friend and teacher to me during those Mackinac years and Pete treated me like family, (possibly due to his friendship and musical collaborations with my great pal, Mark Morris). |

These pictures are from a summer tour in 2004 when I joined David Basse, Bassist/Vocalist-Bryan Hicks, Grammy winning Reedman- Michael Francis (from the iconic Western Swing Group "Asleep At The Wheel"), and Jazz Percussion Great - Bill Goodwin (recordings with Gary Burton, Phil Woods, & Tom Waits, just to name a few) on a series of concerts. We played at The Botanical Gardens in Wichita, Ks., The Smokey Hill River Festival in Salina, Ks, Shuga's Coffee House in Colorado Springs, Dazzle Jazz Club in Denver, Trio Jazz Club in Boulder, The Aspen Jazz Festival, and John & Heather's wedding in the mountains overlooking Boulder, Colorado. WOW! What a whirlwind tour! |
The above photos are all linked to recordings from these gigs.
They're not perfect, but they're fun. I take that back Bryan's version of Angel Eyes is pretty near to perfect, the poem that David reads is "Love is somehow out of reach", by Kansas City's Jazz poet, Dan Jaffe.

Here are a few more shots from that wedding:
About two dozens kinds of Wedding PIE were served!
